4G: soon the "high speed" mobile?

high-speed mobile-4g
A platform for experimenting with 4G services, called ImaginLab, will soon be launched in Brest. A hundred people, recruited October 5, 2011, will use phones to test very specific - according to a article from Paris - "many services such as storage paperless (the" cloud ") for its multimedia The high-definition VoIP, video telephony and mobile TV HD, new services related to geolocation, network games .... " By the way, you know what it is you, the 4G? Me neither ... I have a vague idea but, for details, I will ask some questions to Claude-Alain, our expert equipment.

Elodie: What is 4G?
Claude-Alain, "The 4G is a new mobile standard, the successor to 3G.
3G now offers speeds of 384 kb / s to 2 Mb / s download while 4G will be based on bands frequency with a maximum throughput up to 100 Mb / s download.
The 4G will therefore have a mobile internet connection at very high speeds. "

4G licenses were awarded September 22, 2011 in Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free. What does this mean?
"By means of finance, these companies now have the right to use a frequency band for 4G. Small technical precision: the frequency band affected by these awards is the first 2.6 GHz. In late November 2011, the complete extinction of analog TV, the frequency on which it rested, 800 Mhz, can also be used by 4G. This frequency band is less sensitive to disturbance than is the 2.6 GHz. In an environment where the air might less "pass" with the 800 MHz band, they will go better. Since 4G assignments are not completed, one can easily deduce that the commercial offers will surely not be proposed before 2012. "

Do all mobile devices (phones, tablets, laptops ...) will be compatible?
"No. It will always buy a device compatible with this standard. You're right not to speak only mobile phone as 4G modules could be integrated into tablets or laptops (via a USB key as 3G). Moreover, some firms have already announced their plans for compatible devices. For example: the phone LG Optimus LTE or the Archos and WYSIPS partnership to create a Smart 4G tablet . "

4G will be available throughout France?
"In the beginning, I think 4G will be available only in large cities. It will then be offered more widely, but not sure 100% of French territory is covered ... "

What are the advantages of 4G?
"The main advantage of 4G is to receive an internet connection mobile broadband. We can compare the transition from 3G to 4G with the passage of RTC (Lite) to ADSL. Uses that were incompatible with the technology first became possible with the rates offered by the second. In addition, the 4G signal quality will be more reliable. For example, at home, 3G is not available in all rooms. When I pass the living room to the kitchen, I lose the signal and find myself less efficient to use a network (eg EDGE). With 4G, logically I should keep my connection around my house! Another advantage of 4G: the risk of congestion limited. This means we will suffer more slowly when everyone at the same time download the latest clip of Matt Pokora! Finally, I think that this standard will promote the development of remote applications (eg, a game that starts at distance, in the "cloud" and that does not use the resources of the terminal. This is only used to display the game) and all services "on demand" as VoD.

And disadvantages?
"The first drawback is, for me, economic benefit for the 4G, it will have to purchase new equipment and subscribe to a new subscription.
